The term is flying whānau and to be honest with you...I couldn't be more excited by how much we have achieved in the last ten weeks. We are covering the curriculum and then some! So rather than start on any new work, I thought that I would introduce a new tool for us to use throughout the year. I was told about it by a lady called Mary Jamieson from Waikato University. She is responsible for overseeing our digital contract at RBHS and is a bit of a guru on computer software/apps etc.

Now watch the 2 minute video tour of SpiderScribe...
If your device can't download adobe reader (because it doesn't support this software), then please subscribe to SpiderScribe at home over the weekend and be assured that I have booked us into the library computer lab - Tuesday 15 April and Wednesday 16 April - so that we can all have a go at building a 'Spider'

Your SpiderScribe Task
See below for instructions...but first refresh your memory by reading descriptions of the main characters
- Create a Spider based on the text we read this term
- Your title should be Holes
- Include a Google Earth map of Texas
- Include biographical notes on the author Louis Sachar
- Consider a link to the criminal justice system in Texas, USA. It would be interesting to know what happens to young people in Texas if they break the law. Are they sent to Youth Detention Centers like Camp Green Lake?
- Maybe have some information - links, files, docs - on such human qualities as integrity, honor, courage, truth, and loyalty
- It would be great to see pictures of all the characters from the film Holes and a wee bit of information accompanying each one e.g. Stanley Yelnats, Hector Zeroni, Sam the Onion Man and Miss Katherine Barlow
- Consider including pictures of Camp Green Lake, an example of a Youth Detention Center in Texas and/or images of the Texan landscape - to excite interest in your digital mind-map
